This past year was a remarkable one for grantmaking with five additional rounds beyond our community grant cycle that opened in September. By the time September came around, TTCF was well informed about how the COVID-19 crisis was affecting our community, but this was a chance for our volunteer grants committee to better understand trends in the community and what these organizations needed to stay operational in 2021. With unforeseen costs associated with switching to virtual operations and COVID-19 safety protocols, as well as a loss in fundraising capabilities, it was clear to see that our community nonprofits were struggling.
“By participating in the grants committee, I understood just how lucky we are–this community’s nonprofit network is it’s safety net. Reading the applications from organizations and seeing the sheer breadth and depth of challenges COVID-19 created for fellow community members was astonishing. Undeterred employees, volunteers, and nonprofit organizations were there to ensure families were truly taken care of, this place we love is maintained, and our community is prepared for future challenges. Community members helped lighten the load with their generous donations. We’re fortunate to live in a place where people still look out for each other and we have organizations like TTCF who are able to provide the backbone support to so many doing so much.” Emily Gendron, TTCF Board Member
We are thrilled that we were able to award $359,095 to 41 nonprofits between an open-competitive stream, nature grants from TTCF and the Martis Fund, the Queen of Hearts Women’s Fund and aligned grantmaking from the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund. With these funds, our grantees can ensure a healthy and safe workplace and stabilize their operations for 2021.
