Giving Season for Tahoe Truckee Nonprofits Starts Today

From December 1-15,  45+ Nonprofits Asking for Donations at GiveBackTahoe.org

TRUCKEE, Calif.— From December 1-15, the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation will be hosting its annual end-of-year giving campaign, “Give Back Tahoe”, that shines the spotlight on all that our nonprofits do to support our community. This year, more than ever, local nonprofits are in need of support. 

The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation has provided $2M+ in grants to nonprofits this year, composed of funds raised through the Emergency Response Fund launched by TTCF as well as funds from groups such as Placer Shares that were distributed by TTCF. Now for the 7th year running, the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation has sponsored the development and outreach of the Give Back Tahoe (GBT) campaign and raised an additional $34,000 to go towards special Challenge Grants that will be awarded to small, medium, and large nonprofits during the giving season. 

Despite this year’s record breaking grant totals, nationwide there is still the dire prediction that ⅓ of nonprofits won’t survive the COVID-19 pandemic and recession. Most of our Tahoe Truckee nonprofits have seen the need for their services double or triple since March with a drastic increase in food insecurity, housing insecurity, trail use, and need for mental health support and educational enrichment in a virtual environment. All of our nonprofits have found a way to show up for our community, even though they lost out on $7M in fundraising due to an inability to host in-person fundraisers.

This giving season is our community’s chance to give back to the nonprofits who form our safety net and have brought us so much joy despite this difficult year. Learn more about the ways our nonprofit sector has adapted and launched remarkable services for our community this year:

• Animal Welfare: Created a free pet food distribution program to lessen this burden for families in need, including 10,000 pounds of dog food and 3,000 pounds of cat food were distributed plus countless toys, treats, sweaters and booties
• Arts & Culture: Provided virtual music lessons, art lessons, and art supplies to keep kids engaged in the arts and help parents care for children at home
• Community Improvement: Provided 314 nights of shelter, more than 3100 warm meals, 1025 showers, and 404 loads of laundry to our local population suffering from housing insecurity
• Education: Adapted curriculum for virtual learning and raised $80,000 to purchase Chromebooks to ensure students were set-up for success
• Environment: Organized 100 volunteer days to repair, maintain, and expand our trail systems so everyone could enjoy our local trails 
• Health and Human Services: Delivered over 606,948 meals since March to thousands of families and responded to a 200% increase in helpline calls
• Youth Development: Developed all-day summer programs to serve the children of essential workers
