Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation Distributes $475,000 in COVID-19 Emergency Response Funds to Local Nonprofits

A total of $215,000 will be distributed this week in the second round of funding

TRUCKEE, Calif.—During the COVID-19 crisis, the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation has distributed a total of $475,000 to frontline nonprofits offering crucial services to our community. Last month, TTCF distributed the first round of funding totaling $260,000 and today TTCF announces a second round of funds of $215,000 from the TTCF Emergency Response Fund.

“During the COVID-19 crisis, TTCF has witnessed a drastic increase in community need for emergency services, whether that’s hunger relief, mental health resources, or housing assistance. As our community prepares to reopen, new needs are emerging in childcare and business support,” said Lauren O’Brien, Board Chair of Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation. “Needs in our community continue to shift and we at TTCF are so grateful to our growing base of donors. The collective generosity of our donors has allowed us to distribute $475,000 in funds directly to our frontline nonprofits.”

Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, including the Community Collaborative of Tahoe Truckee, and multiple regional partners are working closely to respond to the COVID-19 crisis and address its impact on our community. With TTCF’s first round of funding, funds quickly assisted core safety-net organizations in building critical business infrastructure to transfer operations virtually and prepare to scale. Now, TTCF is happy to see local nonprofits successfully scaling their operations and creating new partnerships to meet our region’s growing demands. As our community prepares for recovery, we see a continued need for safety-net efforts, as well as the need for new infrastructure to support business and the community.

TTCF Emergency Response Fund – Round 2 Distributions – $215,000

Food Accessibility – $50,000

Scaled operations are in place for key organizations, however, coordinating capacity across existing nonprofit and new business efforts is needed. Funding will assist in achieving efficiency in distribution, investing in existing infrastructure, and ensuring the most vulnerable are served.

Tahoe Truckee Unified School District – $10,000

Sierra Community House – $10,000

Sierra Senior Services – $10,000

Boys & Girls Club – $10,000

Tahoe Food Hub – $10,000

Mental Health & Substance Use – $30,000

Long-term effects of isolation and social distancing are creating increased demands on the existing rural system with very few supports. Funding will assist key organizations in continuing to deliver programs for stigma reduction, crisis intervention, violence prevention, substance use disorder, suicide prevention, and new platforms for youth and adult direct services.

Granite Wellness $15,000

Gateway Mountain Center $10,000

TTUSD Wellness Center $5,000

Shelter and Housing – $65,000

New resources are now in place to help ensure the homeless population is being served in a healthy and safe way. Creative partnerships have emerged to provide safe shelter for families fleeing violent situations. Currently, rental assistance is a growing need with many folks out of work for more than 30 days. Philanthropy is currently exploring how to use grant dollars to incentivize landlords to reduce rent. Funding will leverage public and philanthropic funds for direct relief and establish coordinating capacity to support administering funds.

Sierra Community House – $65,000

Childcare – $50,000

Many community members that support our tourism-based economy are anticipating getting back to work. Childcare facilities have closed and school is not opening physical operations anytime soon, leaving a gap in providing care for our children. Funding will support existing partners that can expand their services and establish operational strategies, such as new safety protocols and “ratios” that must be maintained, along with supplies to protect children and workers.

Boys & Girls Club – $30,000

Local Child Care Partners- $20,000

Business and Community Supports – $20,000

Our regional businesses need coordinated resources to help ensure they stay strong and maintain a safe and healthy workforce as we work towards recovery. Funding will support collaborative efforts that provide technical assistance, assist with standard operating procedures, and coordinate messaging for community and visitor safety.
