Rotary is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders. The Rotary Club of Truckee has close to 90 members and provides humanitarian service, supports local programs, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Rotary is about Service Above Self.
RUTH FRISHMAN SCHOLARSHIP
The Ruth Frishman Scholarship was created to honor a past president of the club. Ruth Frishman was a long-time local attorney and Rotarian who was dedicated to the Truckee community. She was an outspoken leader who took an active role in advocating for affordable workforce housing, was a major benefactor to our local humane society and a strong proponent of excellence in academics.
THE MATT RUSANOFF SCHOLARSHIP
The Matt Rusanoff Scholarship honors past club president Matt. Matt was born and raised in Truckee; Co-Salutatorian Truckee High School class of 1989. He played on Truckee High School’s championship soccer team and skied its championship Nordic team. He was a nationally ranked Nordic skier and Biathlon Nationals competitor in 1989. Matt spoke seven languages, graduated from Cal Poly as an Architect. Matt was tirelessly active in the Truckee community. His compassion, sense of humor, ready grin, easy laugh and unfailing good nature made everyone his friend. Matt passed away February 26, 2007. Matt was a unique and outstanding individual, a tremendous asset to this community.
THE RON FLORIAN CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
The Ron Florian Career Technical Education Scholarship honors yet another past club president. Ron was a long time Truckee resident, Mayor, Town Council Member, Safeway General Manager, and owner of Florian’s Fine Wines & Specialty Foods which employed many Truckee High students over the years. Ron strove to educate young minds in the entrepreneurial spirit as well as the day to day tasks of running a family owned business. He fostered community service and customer service which resulted in a flourishing business. This scholarship was established for Truckee youth continuing education at a vocational, technical and/or community college.
