The Truckee Optimist Club provides hope and a positive vision to bring out the best in kids since 1971. The Optimists have sponsored over $1,000,000 for youth and programs with a goal to give back to children in every possible way including education scholarships, sports team donations, elementary, middle, and high school donations for extra-curricular programs and field trips, scout troop projects, drama productions, and individual programs. The Optimists fund over $75,000 annually and contribute nearly $30,000 each year in scholarships to graduating Truckee Seniors.
Nelson Stone Education Scholarship
This scholarship is intended to benefit a graduating senior who will be pursuing a career in technical education. The recipient must be a Truckee resident and be available for a scheduled interview if selected to move forward as a finalist. Additional essay required.
Phil Bocks Community Service Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to reward a graduating senior who has given outstanding service to their community in any capacity. Some examples include involvement in a service club, volunteer hospital assistant, volunteer fireman, Big Brothers Big Sisters programs, Doctors Without Borders, athletic coaching or officiating, or bilingual programs. Volunteer work may be done as an individual or through an organization and is separate from any volunteerism required by the school. Determination of the recipient of this scholarship will be based on the quality of contribution as well as the amount of time donated. Recipient must be a Truckee resident and be available for a scheduled interview if selected to move forward as a finalist. An effort will be made to award this scholarship to a student who has not otherwise been recognized for their contributions. Additional essay required.
Truckee Optimist Scholarship
The Truckee Optimist Scholarship is an investment in the future for a graduating senior who may not otherwise be able to finance a higher education. Recipient must be a Truckee resident and be available for a scheduled interview if selected to move forward as a finalist.
Sierra High School Scholarship
This need-based scholarship is for a Sierra Continuation High School graduate who has made vigorous efforts to complete their graduation requirements and who has a strong, viable education plan for career technical education or academic endeavor. The recipient must be a Truckee resident and be available for a scheduled interview if selected to move forward as a finalist. Additional essay required.
