Our People Need Homes

Housing costs 3x more in Truckee than the national average. More and more people cannot afford to live here. We need achievable housing for our full-time residents and workforce. We also need to keep what makes our region so special: our people, our mountain culture, and our beautiful environment.

Our Housing Solutions Fund has helped kick-start development projects and local programs, such as Landing Locals.

Stable homes build a more vibrant community

North Tahoe-Truckee has approximately 34,000 units, and 30,000 full-time residents. However, more than half of housing units sit empty for more than half the year. Full-time residents are under-housed, over-housed, or paying beyond their means.

65% of our homes sit empty

for more than half the year. This is in investment properties, second homes, and short-term rental properties.

4,100 residents pay too much

live with too many people, or live in illegal units. Including seasonal workers and non-resident commuters, our region needs 12,000 additional units.

Families wait 6 months-2 years for a home

they can afford. There are limited supplies of affordable housing units for low-income residents. In 2016, the waitlist for one was up to two years!

76 affordable housing units for artists

Working with the Town of Truckee and the Martis Fund, our dollars provided soft financing needed for State tax credits. The credits made it possible for developers to continue forward with building 70+ affordable housing units.

Landing benefits the community by helping:
