Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation Celebrated in a National Effort to Highlight Local Impact of Philanthropy

November 12-18, 2014, Community Foundation Week celebrates the impact of Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) and more than 700 community foundations across America. For 25 years, Community Foundation Week has raised awareness about the vital role of these philanthropic organizations in fostering local collaboration and creative innovation to cultivate community health and well-being.

Community foundations represent one of the fastest-growing forms of philanthropy. Community Foundation Week, created in 1989 by former president George H.W. Bush, recognizes and celebrates their commitment and efforts. Community foundations are independent, public entities that distribute economic resources from a vast bank of donors and foundations to local nonprofit organizations.

Since 1999, TTCF has served North Tahoe-Truckee by contributing more than $21 million in four areas of impact: Arts and Culture, Education and Youth Development, Health and Human Services, and Environment, Conservation and Animal Welfare. TTCF allocated $1.6 million in 2013 alone through six grant cycles and our generous donor advised funds. We are proud to have leveraged over $40 million in our short life span. TTCF also bolsters the efforts of our local nonprofits by fostering collaborative relationships to build a more integrative community.

For over a year, TTCF and Sierra Sun have collaborated on a collective giving project to serve our community nonprofits. Debuting in both the Sierra Sun and on www.givebacktahoe.org on November 21^st, the Holiday Giving Guide features 59 nonprofits in a six week campaign to generate philanthropic funds. This campaign exposes participating organizations to a much broader readership of more than 9,000 potential donors.

Our impact is about more than money. Lives have been changed, organizations have been strengthened. New needs and opportunities have been identified and supported.
